"The just one's offering enriches the altar, and rises as a sweet odour to the Most High" (Sir. 35:8). Who is just in the eyes of the Lord? We are all weak people, made strong by the mercy and grace of our God. Paul said, "where sin abounds, grace abounds even more" (Rom. 5:20). As we prepare for the Season of Lent, how do we then 'enrich the altar' when we gather for worship? The Psalmist reminds us that a "humble and contrite heart" will not be spurned by the Lord (Ps. 51:17). To acknowledge that our salvation is based solely on the love of God, is to evoke a sense of joy and a spirit of praise when we gather in His name. We are just because of the blood of the Lamb of God on the cross. Therefore, the only response is to praise, please and follow Him (Mk. 10:28). Lord, may the words of my mouth, the contrition of my heart and the ongoing conversion of my life, all be acceptable in Your sight. Amen.
