Jonah and the Son of Man became signs for their respective generations (Lk.11:30). Both were sent by God to call the people to repentance. If the people respond and turn away from evil, then they will be saved. God's love for us is so strong, that He desires all to be saved (1 Tim. 2:3-4). He gives us grace and time to convert, to listen to His voice and be lead into the path of eternal life. There is something beautiful about this picture. God's plan for Jonah, although the latter at first resisted, resulted in his being rescued from the whale and then from his emotions. God's plan for His Son, the latter who never resisted, rescued Him from the people and then from death. Salvation comes to both audience and the prophet. Today, will I be a sign for God for my salvation? Lord Jesus, empower me to be an effective sign of Your love and mercy for others, so that Your grace may lead me to eternal life. Amen.
