Lenten Bytes

In the context of our experience, we can view the Season of Lent with eyes of faith and love. This year, Lent started on Valentine's Day. We are beings of love because we are made by God who is love. We are called to show 'concrete' signs of love for God and others by choosing to spend time in prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Since love is not just a word but also an act, the aforementioned actions are evidence of love.

We can only share and experience love when we enter into quality relationships with others. It is the connection we have with God that gives meaning to our actions, to draw close to Him and for the benefit of neighbour. The ultimate aim of love is to please the other. We can only do this when we strive to "deny ourselves" (Lk. 9:23) and lose our self-centred egos for a higher purpose - our eternal salvation.

Lord Jesus, may Your Spirit fill my entire being, so that as I choose to love you with all that I am, my life may be dedicated to Your glory and for others' good. Amen.
