We are called by Jesus to be His Disciples. A Disciple is one who learns from the Teacher. We learn our lessons so that we can all be teachers by word and example to others. However, we have to be alert and not allow pride, arrogance, denial or a false sense of superiority to overtake us. Jesus warns us in today’s gospel (Mt. 23:1-12) that we are to learn our lessons, but keep our eyes on Him and not the human vessel. We need His grace and Spirit to be the faithful teacher or student in the context of our encounters. Focussing on His merciful presence and word allows us to journey through the weakness of humanity. Lord Jesus, may Your grace and Spirit enable me to be an effective instrument in Your hands, as I choose to learn from You and be open to teach others about Your love. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
