Lenten Bytes

We can be a people whose stubbornness to see, yield or believe is evidenced by the barriers and reasons we propose to justify our position. Some of these include the race, religion and culture of the other. Other justifications are based on whether we consider the other person to be friend or foe, if the person is close or distant from us, or if the individual has upset our status, or gives us reasons for revenge. Jesus had His detractors. Many refused to believe in Him because of His birthplace, the ‘scandal’ surrounding his parents, the reality of His superior knowledge which made them feel inferior, and even the pre-conceived notion of what the Messiah will do. They even went so far as to refer to His age (Jn. 8:57) as a cynical way to discredit Him. May the ‘scales’ that blind us be removed by Jesus. Lord Jesus, may Your healing touch remove the barriers from my eyes and mind that prevent me from seeing Your glory in others. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
