Jesus says He is our teacher (Jn. 13:13). Every teacher and parent knows the joy of imparting knowledge, and the frustration when the student/child does not listen or is too stubborn to learn. Therefore the lesson has to be repeated several times, and one hopes for the best. Although Peter saw Jesus washing the disciples’ feet, he allowed his own thoughts to block the lesson of humility being taught. Only after Jesus affirmed the action and its meaning did Peter agree to submit (Jn. 13: 5-10). Peter listened, learned and grew. Do we? Lord Jesus, touch my ears to hear Your words that guide, my mind to understand, and my heart to lovingly respond. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
