Today's Byte

We take daily baths to wash away dirt and make ourselves clean. In the spiritual life, we are made clean through the water of baptism. But our purity is a journey of ongoing reflection, repentance and conversion. It involves identifying those exterior actions and our interior thoughts and intentions that are not of God, and therefore must be cleansed by the mercy and grace of our Lord. Jesus reminds us that we are to strive to be clean on the outside and inside (Lk. 11:37-41). Our wilful actions, desires and intentions are to be conformed to His word. They should also lead to the good and upliftment others. A real sign of growth is not just the giving of alms, but also a genuine show of love in choosing to think good thoughts and speak well of others, and let our actions bring joy to God and all. Lord Jesus, cleanse me with Your grace, and help me to offer the gift of my life as a pure and acceptable sacrifice in Your sight. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
