The basis and heart of our faith is rooted in the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. He tells us that He will ‘raise the destroyed temple in three days’ (Jn. 2:19). When the crowd thought He was referring to the physical temple, John makes it clear that Jesus was speaking about His body (Jn. 2:21). Jesus’ resurrection solidified the belief of the disciples (Jn. 2:22) and spurred them to tell this good news to all. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19). This Spirit is our surety that we too will be raised from the dead and live with our Saviour forever. We need not fear death, because it is the doorway to heaven. However, in order to get there, we must ‘cleanse’ ourselves from sin the way Jesus cleansed the temple (Jn. 2:16). When we ‘destroy’ that which is not of God, it is then that we will truly live. Lord Jesus, may Your grace cleanse us from our sins, give us new strength, and live with the hope of being with You forever. Amen.
Blessings,
