There is a certain comfort and challenge in hearing Jesus saying, “God knows your hearts,” (Lk. 16:15). It is comforting to know that God who fashioned us in His image and likeness, knows our thoughts and intentions. He knows our desire to please Him, even when we fail. He knows our desire to follow Him, even when we go astray. God who sees our exterior actions, also acknowledges our interior motives. It is therefore important to examine our motives, purify our intentions and make time for prayerful introspection. This challenge to grow in grace starts with the heart. A heart given to God seeks to please Him. The facade of living an ‘exterior’ life to either please everyone, or give the illusion that we are self-sufficient, will leave us feeling empty. But aligning our heart and actions to God’s word will yield peace and joy. Lord Jesus, take our hearts and help us to be more committed to You. May the daily actions we perform, the words from our mouths and the meditations of our heart always be acceptable in Your sight. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
