Jesus is identified in today’s gospel as a ‘friend of tax collectors and sinners’ (Mt. 11:19). He who is without sin, actively seeks out, sits and eats with those who sin. His mission, which He freely accepts, is to save those who have fallen. By His saving grace, Jesus restores their brokenness by His healing presence. Our Advent journey leads into Christmas. It can be a joyful time for some, while being a source of loneliness for others. If we choose to remember that Jesus is always with us, no matter the pain of loved ones lost or the barriers because of sin, we can rejoice because we are never alone. Our Emmanuel and Saviour is with us always. Lord Jesus, may I take delight in Your company at all times, so that through the light of Your love, You will lead me out of the darkness of loneliness, despair and sin into the glory of heaven. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
