The path to true holiness is a step by step process. It is a continuous journey and interplay between ‘looking within’ and going ‘further out’. We should never think we have ‘arrived’ and be satisfied with where we are at in our spiritual lives. The Lord says our righteousness ought to surpass the Scribes and Pharisees (Mt. 5:20-26). In other words, our holiness is not to be measured against other frail and weak human beings, but should seek to mirror and imitate our holy Lord. Growth in holiness starts with our prayer relationship with God. When we see how truly good and loving He is, we will come to realise how far we are away from being what the Lord calls us to be. Recognising and repenting from our sins, and a desire to strive to do better, will set us on the right path. By His grace, we move from loving friend to blessing foe, rising from anger to being at peace, changing actions of the body to curtailing thoughts pleasing to God. Ask our God to help us to grow. Lord Jesus, as we listen to Your voice, help us to respond and choose to grow as You desire. Forgive us when we fail, lift us when we fall, and empower us to walk in Your ways. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
