“Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed” (2 Tim. 3:14). It is so easy to get distracted or discouraged by the experiences of life. Temptations such as ‘the grass is greener on the other side’ or ‘God has abandoned us’ can threaten our focus. Realities such as ingratitude, an unhealthy sense of entitlement, or ‘shallow’ thinking that leads to erroneous conclusions (Mk. 12:35) can derail our enthusiasm. Our true focus and source of inspiration must come from our connection with Jesus, whose grace imparts strength for the journey (2 Cor. 12:9). His stripes effect total healing and our renewal (Is. 53:5). His words are spirit and life (Jn. 6:63), and therefore it is His guidance and direction we must seek primarily above all other voices. When we allow our faith to be enlightened with His understanding, then peace will reign in our lives. Lord Jesus, You are the Word and Source of our life, love and joy. Help us to keep our focus on You, and so have the courage to walk in Your ways and be led by Your grace. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
