If we want to experience joy in the moment and fulfilment from our journey with the Lord, then whatever we feel prompted by the Spirit to do, do it with all our heart and neither look for praise from others, nor compare our activity with anyone else. Just do our best, give our all and use the experience to grow closer to the Lord. In today’s gospel (Lk. 10:38-42), Mary sat at the Lord’s feet while Martha served. Mary was satisfied to listen to the Lord in the moment. But Martha, who knew the value of hospitality, was distracted by comparing herself to Mary. When our focus is to please our God, then our ‘listening’ or ‘serving’ become the ‘better part’ of our lives. Lord Jesus, You listened to Your Father so that You may know how to serve Him. Teach us how to listen to You and serve You, for no other purpose than to seek Your glory and praise. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
