Prior to COVID-19, I usually looked forward to taking a vacation in the summer. This meant stepping back from the usual routine of work, and using the opportunity to get some physical and mental rest. I was happy for the break, but after a week and a half, I then yearned to return, to once again be re-united with my loving parents, family and friends. There is such an immense comfort and joy in seeing the faces of the persons I love. When Jesus left His heavenly Father, although He came in love to save us, He too would have had a yearning to return to His Father. But the love that He has for His Father and us meant that He could not be distant from either. So Jesus returned to His Father and sent us His Spirit. Love demands being together. Let us live with the joyful hope that after our current time on earth, we will be re-united with our God forever (Jn. 12:26). Lord Jesus, You desire that we be spend eternity with You because You love us. May the life we live in the present reveal our love for You, and win our place with You forever. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
