“How do I love you? Let me count the ways” (E. B. Browning). “You’re everything to me, the flame that lights my way so I can see” (The Manhattans). “I’d climb every mountain, and swim every ocean, just to be with you” (Calum Scott). These beautiful words capture a mind and heart that reflect on the experience of love. They can be directed towards one’s spouse, or even towards our God with whom we grow daily in love. Jesus states that it is “from the fullness of the heart that the mouth speaks” (Lk. 6:45). In the context of the reading, we hear that it is out of the goodness of the heart that someone produces good. The more we cultivate a loving heart towards all, the greater will be our good fruit, the sweeter will be our lyrics towards others and God, and the more beautiful will be our lives. Today say to the Lord, “Your love is perfect.” Lord Jesus, Your love is perfect, it revives our drooping spirit. Embrace us in Your warm and healing presence. Endear us with Your gentle touch. May our hearts always burn for You, so that the good fruits we bear and the uplifting words we speak find favour with You. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
