Advent Byte

God is all-powerful, but He has two limits. God is love, and since love does not force, then God does not force His will or word on us, but allows us to freely choose. God is also holy, and so He cannot sanction sin, but freely forgives us if we turn to Him.

Mary’s Immaculate Conception - conceived without sin - is a sign of God’s power. He who needed a pure and worthy womb for His sinless Son, made her “full of grace” (Lk. 1:28) for His divine purpose. God who has no limits, created her pure from her birth.

Mary’s consent (Lk. 1:38) reveals a love for God and a desire to freely consent to His will. Her ‘fulness of grace’ is based on the merits of Jesus who is her Son and Saviour. Do we limit God, or say “yes” to His power actively working in our lives for good?

Loving Father, pour Your Spirit upon us and make us spotless in Your sight. May we, like Mary, never hesitate to say “yes” to reveal the love and mercy of Jesus to all. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
