When we go to Church, what do we go to see? Jesus asked the people in today’s gospel reading (Lk. 7:24-30), “What did you go out to the desert to see?” They intentionally set out to see a prophet. They deliberately went to hear the word of the Lord.
Before we either leave home to go to Church, or join the online service, it is wise to get our mental state in order. We are to keep in mind that we are gathering to “see” our Saviour, to listen to His word and to draw close to Him. The benefit comes from the preparation.
Lord Jesus, You are always ready to welcome us into Your presence. May we gain the fruits of celebrating Your love, by deliberately reminding ourselves that when we gather in Your holy name, we do so to hear Your voice and to grow in Your favour. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
