Existentially, we are a family of God because He is our Father and Creator. Relationally, we are loved as individuals who are called by God to grow in grace and favour. We all belong to a group, but as links on a chain, the family is as strong, or as weak, as each individual.
Like Peter in today’s gospel (Lk. 9:18-22), I as an individual must affirm who the Lord is for me. The crowd neither had the wisdom to have the correct answer, nor did they have faith, hope and love as expected. In the end, it is not the crowd that saves, but faith in God.
Lord Jesus, as I acknowledge You as my Saviour and God, may I never be swayed by the incorrect opinions and unloving actions of the crowd. Keep me close to You always. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
