The presence of evil is real. Evidence of this reality can be gleaned when a good word or deed is conducted, it is immediately followed by a ‘spirit’ that promotes a questionable agenda, exaggerated criticism or deliberate attempts to silence or get rid of the person.
People who allow their egos to dominate their thinking, or whose feelings of inferiority or even a false sense of superiority, easily become agents of evil whose aim is to discredit or create division and disharmony. They are so deceived that they believe their evil is good.
We see this truth in the gospel (Lk. 11:15-26). After Jesus exorcised a demon, immediately the crowd embraced a satanic mentality by seeking to discredit Him. Like Jesus, we too must expect evil from others. But we must persevere in goodness for God’s glory.
Lord Jesus, You are the source of all that is good in our lives. May we never tire nor feel discouraged by the evil we encounter, but through Your grace and Spirit, persevere in doing all the good we can, seeking Your glory and advancing Your kingdom. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
