Whereas it is easy to identify and choose between good and evil, very often the clash in life is between two ‘goods’ from different perspectives. The personal good may clash with an ideal good of the community, such as taking something that is not paid for.
This clash is seen in today’s gospel (Lk. 14:1-6). The Lawyers and Pharisees were deeply consumed with what is acceptable on a sabbath that they hesitate to do or speak of curing anyone. The ultimate good is to bring wholistic life, love and mercy to all.
Lord Jesus, may Your healing love in our lives inspire us to extend all the good we can for others. Teach us how to discern, so that our choices may lead to Your glory. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
