Since our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, we can glean how we should strive to live and present our bodies to the Lord when we ponder the Temple of the Lord:
1. Beauty — Like the Temple building, our bodies as temples should be instruments of real beauty. It is a type of beauty that radiates good thoughts, words and deeds. Living with a pure mind and heart makes us attractive to others, and eventually attracts others to God.
2. Worship — As the Temple is the place where people gather to worship the Lord, so too our bodies should be centres of worship as we contemplate God’s goodness and give Him thanks and praise. When others see us as a people of prayer, they will feel inspired.
3. Sacrifice — The Temple is where people go to make sacrifice to the Lord (Jn. 2:13-22). We are not only blessed with good things from God, but we are also empowered to make sacrifices by using our bodies to generously respond to the needs of the less fortunate.
Today, let the Holy Spirit fill our bodies as His temples, so that we can reveal His presence.
Come Holy Spirit and fill us with Your awesome presence. As You share Yourself in our frail humanity, may we respond by giving ourselves completely to Your divinity. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
