The law is useful and provides a guide on how we are to live. But Jesus reveals that love supersedes the law when there is a need to heal someone afflicted, or even rescue a child or animal in need (Lk. 14:1-6). Indeed, under the law, we are guilty because we fall into the ‘cistern of sin’. But the love of Jesus for us impels Him to rescue us by dying on the cross for our healing. Love looks beyond the law and sees a person in need of salvation.
Today give thanks to the Lord for His love, which saves us from being guilty under the law.
Lord Jesus, Your sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our sins. Help us to obey Your commands, forgive us when we fail, and lift our hearts by the power of Your love. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
