The invitation to be part of the family of Jesus comes with a qualification. The word of God must strike our ears and influence our actions (Lk. 8:21). Placing the varied disagreements on doctrine, interpretation and consequent devotional practices aside, we can instead do that which is ‘plain’ and easily understood by the child and adult. We are commanded to love without limits; forgive without counting; give without remorse, and live for the growth of all. However, the reality of being ‘family’ also comes with the call to live as people who walk in the light of the Lord and not the darkness of the world. Ours is the ‘high’ calling to make all lives matter for our Father’s glory. Loving Father, You created us to be Your children, through the presence of Jesus Your Son. May the light of our lives truly reflect that we are Your family, and You are our God. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
