The presentation of the child Jesus by Mary and Joseph in the temple (Lk. 2:22-32) allows the promise made by the Holy Spirit to Simeon to be fulfilled. He was told he would not see death before he saw the Christ of the Lord. Even in His infancy, the power of Jesus over the reality of death was being unwrapped and His purpose was becoming evident.
During His lifetime, Jesus would confirm this power by raising Lazarus and others from the grasp of death. Finally, on the cross, Jesus is re-presented to the Father as the one sacrifice that fully conquers death and leads to life. Why do we love and serve the Lord? Ultimately, it is because in Him, we are rescued from the arms of death and given eternal life.
Lord Jesus, may we who present ourselves to You, and offer You fitting praise and worship, constantly celebrate the power of Your resurrection and the gift of our eternal life. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
