Jesus tells us to let the light of our good works shine (Mt. 5:16). There are two pitfalls to be avoided. The first is to remember that the good we do comes from God. Plagiarism (taking credit for someone else’s work) and pride (done for praise) are tools of the devil.
The second is to appreciate the fact that with all the good that is done, there are still many aspects of our lives that are in the dark. True love means having the courage to gently help the other to see the darkness, so as to step into the light and joy of our Lord.
Lord Jesus, Your Spirit empowers us to do all the good we can for Your glory, and not for our praise. May our humility and service be sources of light and inspiration to all. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
