Always pray for discernment. Today the Lord tells us not to give “what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine” (Mt. 7:6, 12-14). These words are as jarring as they are practical.
Ponder the following —
* Everyone can be saved by the Lord, but not everyone wants salvation.
* Everyone can be loved, but not every individual is capable of returning love.
* Everyone can be taught, but pride and rejection prevents proper learning.
* Everyone is to be valued, but not everyone reveals the light of our Lord.
* Each person is called to holiness, but not everyone inspires nor encourages.
May we humbly seek discernment, so that our response to each individual, situation and experience will lead to our spiritual growth and God’s eternal glory.
Come Holy Spirit, and grant us the important gift of discernment. May Your guidance and wisdom help us to act and respond to all of life’s situations in a manner that leads to our holiness and to the praise of Your name. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
