Trees are identified by the good and bad fruits they bear (Mt. 7:15-20). However, we are not trees. As human beings created with free will and the power to choose, we sometimes bear good fruit and other times bear bad. It is within us to bear all types of fruit at various times.
Since our aim is to please the Lord, we are to make every effort to identify and remove the bad fruit, while simultaneously relying on God’s grace and Spirit to bear good fruit. The aim of the spiritual life is to bear more good fruit than bad, so that we can give God glory.
Come Holy Spirit and fill our lives. Help us to bear good fruit that will identify us as Your temples and children. May the fruits we bear make a positive change in our world. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
