In today’s gospel (Lk. 15:3-7), we have the beautiful image of the shepherd who goes in search of the lost sheep and rejoices when it is found. This is immediately aligned to the joy of the sinner who repents. What is the connection?
Shepherds (parents and pastors) can go searching, but if the ‘sheep’ does not want to be found, it runs and hides. Sinners must want to be found and convert. Love cannot be forced on others. Jesus our Shepherd will search, but we have to positively respond.
Lord Jesus, Your sacred heart aches for our loving response. May we come to realise that there is no safer place to be than in Your arms and in Your saving presence. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
