In today’s gospel (Jn. 12:24-26), Jesus speaks about the necessity of the seed falling into the ground and dying, in order for it to produce much fruit. Since each of us is a seed in the hand of the Lord, then there are three realities we can ponder to bear fruit:
1. We have to be willing to put our selfish ego to death. To do this, we must be open to ‘fall’ into the Word of the Lord and allow the spiritual nutrients therein to spur growth.
2. The Lord loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:7). He who provides for our needs, now invites us to share our blessings without feeling compelled or having selfish agendas.
3. If we allow the Lord to ‘plant’ us where He desires, then it is in the current contexts of our lives that the ‘fruits’ of love, joy, peace, patience and kindness must be borne.
May we strive to bear good fruits in every experience of our lives that befit us as God’s people, who are called to make this world a better place.
Lord Jesus, plant us firmly in Your Word. Let Your Spirit give us increase in growth, so that by Your grace and power, we may bear fruits that sweeten and improve our world. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
