“The world in its present form is passing away” (1 Cor. 7:31). This statement seems to be true for every generation who lament the ‘old days’ while expressing confusion with the new experiences. Just when a person is trying to get used to technology, along comes the metaverse and its challenges. After coming to terms with today’s approach to gender identity and openness to relationships, now language is evolving and identifying a person as ‘non-binary’ or even ‘them’. The slope gets even more slippery over time.
How do we cope? One way to remain in a state of peace in all of this confusion, is to keep ourselves centred on the practices and values that have withstood the test of time. If we have faith in our God, experience has shown that He will guide us through all the shifting sands of time. If we make Him, and not material things, the centre of our minds, hearts and lives, then not only will He provide for our needs, but also in Him we will find our happiness and strength (Lk. 6:20-26). The love of our God covers the past, present and future.
Loving Father, bless us and preserve us through the vicissitudes of time and life. May our trust in Your power and love give us the courage to face each day. May our faith enable us to walk with confidence through any uncertainty into the safety of Your arms. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
