What a beautiful image we have of the Lord’s love for us. He said He yearns to gather us, “as a hen gathers her brood under her wings” (Lk. 13:34). A mother’s love when lived in the light of the Trinity, takes on an elevated status.
As our Father creates, so a mother co-creates by bringing life into the world. As the Son teaches and saves, so a mother guides and disciplines. As the Spirit empowers and helps us to bear fruit, so a mother’s love gives us fertile courage.
Our Divine Lord offers this special and all-inclusive love to each of us. It is a love that heals, protects and saves. Like the hen who offers her wings, our Lord opens His arms to all of us. The question is, do we want the love and protection He offers?
Loving Lord, in Your arms we have all that we will ever need. Guard us, guide us and protect us from all evil and harm. May we choose to live in a conscious awareness of Your saving presence, and reveal Your love without selectivity or partiality. Amen.
