Genuine believers of God must be prepared to experience persecution (Lk. 21:12-19). This will come from family, friends and even from those in the same religious community where one worships. Judas is a prime example of one in the same group who causes pain.
There are reasons for persecution. When one desires to walk closer with the Lord, you will be misunderstood. Your light of faith will disturb the darkness in others. Your depth of love will ruffle the shallowness and lack of substance in those who do not grow.
But we are given our ray of hope from the Lord: perseverance and steadfast faith in Him and the power of His resurrection will culminate in our eternal salvation.
Loving Lord, give us the grace to persevere in times of trial and persecution. May we never forget how You suffered for us and remained committed to Your mission of dying so that we may live. May our fidelity to the end win us the crown of salvation. Amen.
