Christians understand the value of rituals, and observing liturgical norms and guidelines. The aim is to help us centre our focus on God, by engaging our entire self in the reality of worship. The individual and the congregation become ‘one in mind’ in the moment.
However, where there is a clash between the ritual observance of a liturgical day or Season (Sabbath or Lent) and the existential needs of a person, then the latter takes priority. The value of the individual supersedes the merit of the ritual (Mt. 12:1-8).
Jesus died so that each individual can live. We worship the Lord and impart life to all.
Lord Jesus, You became human to highlight the worth of each person and the human race. May our worship give You honour, and our service to each other give You praise. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
