Money is a necessary evil. The evolution of commerce resulted in moving from a barter system to monetary units, in order to satisfy payments. But an excessive love of money and the draining energy expended to attain, pay and invest can lead to skewed priorities.
Judas betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver (Mt. 26:15). Today we read that the soldiers were paid a large sum of money to give a false report (Mt. 28: 12-15). Jesus’ resurrection is a reminder that we are to rise above unhealthy attachments to money and materialism.
Lord Jesus, we celebrate the power of Your resurrection in our lives. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on You and the things of heaven, so as to not get entombed in things of earth. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
