Jesus said, “Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from Him comes to me” (Jn. 6:45). God, who is love, pulls us to Jesus who is love incarnate. Jesus emphasises that our reward should not be expected when we love those who love us and the path is easy. The evidence of heavenly love is seen when we love the difficult and the road is rocky.
This is not a ‘natural’ way of love. Rather, it is a ‘supernatural’ approach that is done by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The fruit of the Spirit is unconditional and limitless love. Only through the Spirit can we love friend and foe. We, who eat and drink of the Lord, are empowered to love as Jesus loves. Let the light of love shine brightly.
Lord Jesus, You and the Father are one in love. Teach us how to love without restraint by the power of Your Holy Spirit. May the light of Your merciful love shine at all times. Amen.
