Following the Lord through faith is meant to be an act of free choice and not by force. But in order for choice to be exercised, guidance and formation have to be imparted with accurate information. Adults are to be guides for their children by their words and example. A child may feel forced in the formative years, but then is expected to make a choice later on.
Saul made a choice to follow the Lord when he encountered Him (Acts 9:1-20). The Lord also called His Disciples who freely followed Him. Those who choose to do so are invited to eat and drink of the Lord, so as to inherit eternal life (Jn. 6:52-59). What are the daily and habitual choices we make to reveal that we worship a loving God who gives life to all?
Loving Father, You freely created us and lovingly gave us Jesus Your Son, who chose to die so that we may live. May our choices in life reveal that we are Your children. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
