Easter Bytes

The Lord knows our tendency to be fickle. One moment we cry out our praise to Him, and the next moment we shout crucify Him. Today we celebrate our leaders and the next day we condemn them. No wonder Jesus ran away to the mountain when the crowd wanted to make Him king (Jn. 6:1-15). Kingship by ‘mouth’ is different from Kingship by ‘heart’.

Today’s gospel reading highlights the reality that the spiritual life is all about putting the Lord first at all times. This means that He is our constant priority, and not just when we need to be healed from illness; motivated when we are down, or fed when we are hungry. We must consistently choose the Lord and His ways, and not just when it is convenient.

Lord Jesus, You lovingly placed our salvation as Your priority, which cost Your very life. May our gratitude be evident in our placing You as King of our hearts and entire lives. Teach us how to consistently place You first in every circumstance of life. Amen.

Blessings,

Fr. Howie
