Food is a basic necessity of life. Some items, such as pizza, chocolate cake and red wine are a welcome treat on the dinner table. Other items, such as vegetables and legumes may not necessarily be fully desired. We may prefer to shun these servings.
Jesus tells us that we must work for the “food that endures for eternal life” (Jn. 6:27). The meal that Jesus serves through His Word may sometimes be sweet and delightful. Other times it may be a struggle. But like vegetables, what Jesus serves is good for us.
Lord Jesus, You give us the Eucharist and Your Word on which we feed. May our partaking of this spiritual food, even when we may not like what You serve, lead us to everlasting life. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
