Jesus tells us to ask, so that our “joy may be complete” (Jn. 16:24). To ask is to exercise humility. It means we are dependent on God and not our own power or ego. Therefore, we can confidently approach the Lord and ask Him to lead us into His joy and strength.
Our joy is either enhanced or robbed because we do not know for what to ask. Constantly focussing on the self will leave one empty. Therefore, choose to ask for the grace to live in peace with the restless; the desire to seek understanding and a heart to truly love.
Lord Jesus, pour Your Spirit upon us and help us to recognise the difference between the vice of self-absorption and the virtue of selfless witnessing. Teach us to how to seek Your praise and not to be absorbed with our own vanity. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
