Our Lenten journey has begun. On Ash Wednesday, we were reminded to observe the disciplines of fasting, praying and almsgiving. Each believer has to assess how — based on one’s age, health and medication — during the Season of Lent, these are to be applied.
Modernists tend to shy away from fasting and instead encourage ‘doing good’. But Jesus invites His disciples to fast (Mt. 9:14-15), because it not only sensitises us to the needs of others, but also helps us to be masters of our appetites. Fast with the desire to grow.
Lord Jesus, by Your grace, help us to grow and draw closer to You during this Season of Lent. May our fasting from food and sin be acceptable sacrifices in Your sight. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
