God’s mercy is ‘gold’, mined by our humility. This is clear in today’s gospel (Lk. 18:9-14). The tax collector who “would not raise his eyes to heaven”, but spent the time acknowledging his own sins, is the one who went home justified. God is ready and willing to forgive. But we must be honest about our sins before Him and not waste time comparing ourselves with others. It is when we bow before the Lord in penitence that He lifts us up.
Loving Saviour, forgive us our sins. In You we place our trust and our hope. May we open ourselves to Your mercy, so that we may also be merciful and not condemn others. Amen.
Blessings,
Fr. Howie
